I wanted to quickly write up what I know about Curiouser's sisterships. Curiouser, ex High Strung, is a Wylie 38. The hull was laid up in Airex and fiberglass at Westerly Marine in Costa Mesa in 1985. The Wylie 38, Wylie 39 and Wyliecat 39 are all from the same mold. The transom angle of the 39 is less raked than the 38, and the mold was stretched a little to increase volume forward for the cat version. As of 2019, when I visited, the mold was in Watsonville, and still in use.
I'm aware of the following sisterships: 38s: - #1: Marishanna (formerly in Richmond) blog, photo - Cursor (Long Beach) - #2: Punk Dolphin (Richmond) - #3: Curiouser, ex High Strung 39s: - Tawodi (San Diego) SHTP 2000, circumnavigation in 2008, note - Lightspeed (Richmond) awards, 2012 Pac Cup video - Flashgirl (Richmond) - the yellow one with the open transom (formerly in Alameda) - Gavilan (not sure where) There is also one alleged cold molded Wylie 39 named "Rage" (not the same as the Wylie 70 with the same name), about which Latitude 38 reported on Feb 15, 2016 that it sank in Mexico. Sailing anarchy thread about the model. Here Tom Wylie, the designer, is quoted as remembering 11 boats. This brochure seems to suggest the model, in some form, was licensed for production by the Randle Yacht corporation in BC, Canada in the 90s, as the Wylie Super 39. I'll update this article with more references as I find time.
